How to apply for free school meals
Free school meals are managed by your local authority. To check if you qualify and to apply, visit the government website or your local authority’s online portal. If your application is successful, both you and the school will receive confirmation, and the entitlement will be processed automatically.
Who is eligible for free school meals
You may be entitled to free school meals for your KS2 child. All it takes is an application form and certain qualifying criteria. Any information provided to us as part of this application is stored confidentially in our school office. Other pupils and parents are unaware of which pupils are receiving FSMs. To be eligible for free school meals, you must receive one of the following benefits:
· Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
· Child Tax Credit (not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income below £16,190
· Pension Guarantee Credit · Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
· Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
· Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying)
· Universal Credit with a household income of £7,400 or less (after tax and excluding benefits)
Even should you not opt for free-lunches (providing your child with a packed lunch instead), if you are eligible and complete the relevant paperwork, it generates significant additional funding for our school. So if you think you qualify, but want to offer your child a home-prepared meal, you could still be supporting your child and the school by completing the necessary paperwork.
Meals are £2.75 a day (for KS2 pupils). Lunch charges are added to your child's account on a weekly basis and parents are asked to top up monies regularly so that their account doesn't enter a negative balance.
Your child will be set up with a Parentmail account which is a communication tool between Parents and school. You will receive an email and SMS registration once your child has started with us and this will be from Parentmail Iris. Payments for School Lunches, toast and any trips organised will also be added to your child's account and you will receive a notification to pay for these items in your basket. Card payments are accepted or if you prefer cash can be brought into school in a named envelope.
Pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home. We encourage healthy choices, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, and wholegrain foods, to support their learning and wellbeing throughout the day.
PSJ is home to pupils with severe (sometimes life-threatening) allergies to dairy/yoghurt. As such, we ask that parents do not send their child to school with products which contain dairy/yoghurt.
